Team Overview

Our primary focus is to serve Betenbough Homes’ regional teams by providing top notch, world class support in alignment with our company cornerstones of Unity, Growth, Excellence, and Generous Stewardship.  Ultimately, we serve and support Betenbough regional teams to make their jobs easier and more efficient.  Our goal is to serve our construction personnel by creating PO’s and takeoffs that are accurate, selecting products that fit our product development principles, and by negotiating prices on products to help reduce costs.

Job Summary

First and foremost, your primary focus as Purchasing Manager is the growth and development of a healthy team!  You’re charged with leading your team in alignment with our corporate mission and purpose while maintaining a culture of Unity, Growth, Excellence, and Generous Stewardship. In addition, you will be responsible for the quality of work and support that the team produces.  Finally, your purpose in this role is to encourage and promote high functioning team members while holding them accountable to purchasing team and Betenbough standards of excellence.

Essential Job Functions

  • Direction and development for your direct reports
    • Develop growth plans and performance reviews for direct reports
    • Conduct regular weekly 1 on 1 meetings with all direct reports
    • “Walk alongside” direct reports daily to ensure quality of work
    • Monitor workload of direct reports and advise on staffing needs to ensure high quality of life for direct reports
    • Hold direct reports accountable to Betenbough and purchasing team standards
    • Provide training and support for direct reports
    • Develop relationship with direct reports. Build Trust.  Be the Chief Encouragement Officer
  • Grow your team by modeling, equipping, developing, empowering, and measuring progress in each purchasing team member
    • Insert yourself into day-to-day operations of the team to help guide team members in their leadership
  • Foster and promote open communication among purchasing team members & other teams
    • Ensure project status, timelines for completion, and key project details are communicated to all relevant parties
    • Travel to regions on a regular basis in order to communicate key project updates to regional teams
  • Foster & improve the purchasing team’s contribution to a “Team 1” culture
  • Improve processes in all areas of the team & drive initiatives for positive change
  • Intentionally look for ways to personally and professionally grow. Always be a student of the business
  • Pass on company philosophies and approach to the next generation of leaders, hold them accountable to progressively demonstrating, owning, and teaching those to others
  • Analyze and report company-wide gross margins to the leadership team
    • Provide summarized reports showing recent & future cost increases and their effect on margin
    • Provide recommendation to leadership on sales prices to achieved desired margin goals
    • Provide analysis on average VPO’s and average options, and how they affect our margins
  • Fill in for other Team Members
    • Fill in for Project Managers in their roles
    • Fill in for other team members

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Purchasing or supply chain management experience is preferred

  • Recommended level of experience
    • 4+ yrs of leadership, leading direct reports
    • 3+ yrs of home building industry experience is a plus (not required)

Work Environement & Physical Requirements

  • Works in temperature-controlled environment
  • Vision for near, mid-range and far as well as hearing for low, medium, and high pitch
  • Superior communication skills with co-workers, customers, trade partners and vendors.
  • Requires physical ability for standing, sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching above head and below waist
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license and must be able to be insured by company fleet insurance.
  • Must be able to perform all job expectations safely with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds

Hours & Schedule

  • Exempt professional salaried position
  • Excpected 40-45 hours/week
  • After hours and weekends may be necessary on occasion for trips, or to meet deadlines.
