More Than Great Coffee. An Opportunity to Lead, Serve, and Grow.

Do you love creating memorable experiences, building meaningful relationships, and helping others succeed? Are you the kind of person who notices what needs to be done, jumps in to help, and brings out the best in the people around you?

At Ninety-Two Bakery & Café, we’re passionate about more than serving exceptional coffee and delicious food. We’re creating a welcoming environment where customers feel valued, team members are encouraged to grow, and every interaction is an opportunity to make someone’s day better.

We’re looking for an Assistant Cafe Manager – Front of House who leads by example, takes ownership, and genuinely enjoys investing in people. Whether you’re supporting your team during a busy morning rush, connecting with a regular customer, or finding a better way to do something, your leadership will help shape the experience of everyone who walks through our doors.

    Why This Role Matters

Great hospitality starts with a team that feels supported, takes pride in its work, and genuinely cares about the people it serves.

As our Assistant Cafe Manager – Front of House, your primary responsibility will be leading, coaching, and developing the team members who create our customers’ everyday experiences. You’ll work alongside your team, build meaningful relationships, and cultivate an environment where people are encouraged to grow, take ownership, and serve others with excellence.

You’ll also partner with café leadership to keep daily operations running smoothly and step into broader leadership responsibilities when serving as the acting manager.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than manage a shift. You’ll have the chance to invest in people, strengthen operations, contribute ideas, and help shape the continued growth of Ninety-Two Bakery & Café.

What You’ll Spend Your Time Doing

    Leading and Developing Your Team

    • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with team members, providing encouragement, coaching, and constructive feedback.
    • Help recruit, train, and develop team members who are passionate about hospitality and serving others.
    • Model a strong work ethic, accountability, and a willingness to jump in wherever needed.
    • Foster an environment where team members feel valued, supported, and challenged to grow.

    Creating Exceptional Customer Experiences

    • Make every guest feel genuinely welcomed, valued, and cared for.
    • Build lasting relationships with regular customers, new visitors, and community partners.
    • Handle customer concerns with empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to finding solutions.
    • Encourage a culture of hospitality that goes beyond simply taking orders and serving food.

    Leading Front-of-House Operations

    • Oversee daily front-of-house operations to create a welcoming, efficient, and consistent customer experience.
    • Coach and support front-of-house team members in delivering exceptional service while maintaining standards for cleanliness, food safety, and product quality.
    • Anticipate operational needs, resolve challenges, and help your team navigate busy or unexpected situations.
    • Collaborate with café leadership and other departments to support smooth daily operations.
    • Step into acting manager responsibilities when needed, providing leadership and support across front-of-house, back-of-house, and bakery operations.
    • Identify opportunities to strengthen systems, improve efficiency, and help the team operate with greater confidence and consistency.

Taking Ownership of Resources and Results

    • Assist with ordering, inventory management, supplies, and daily financial processes.
    • Monitor product usage, reduce unnecessary waste, and help maintain quality while managing costs.
    • Look for practical ways to improve efficiency, strengthen systems, and make the most of available resources.
    • Take responsibility for assigned priorities and follow through with excellence.

    Helping Our Café Grow

    • Collaborate with café leadership to support catering, wholesale partnerships, seasonal offerings, and new initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities to improve the customer experience, products, and day-to-day operations.
    • Bring ideas, initiative, and a solutions-oriented mindset to the management team.
    • Build meaningful relationships with vendors, team members, and community partners.

What Will Help You Thrive Here

We’re looking for someone whose leadership is demonstrated through actions, not just a job title.

You’ll likely enjoy this opportunity if you:

    • Lead through service. You’re comfortable taking responsibility while working alongside your team rather than simply directing others.
    • Love connecting with people. You naturally build relationships and enjoy making customers and coworkers feel valued.
    • Take initiative. You notice opportunities for improvement and take action without waiting to be asked.
    • Stay steady under pressure. You can make decisions, solve problems, and support others when things get busy.
    • Care about the details. You understand that consistency, cleanliness, organization, and quality matter.
    • Enjoy developing others. You find satisfaction in helping team members build confidence, skills, and ownership.
    • Embrace growth. You’re open to feedback, willing to learn, and excited about improving both yourself and the business.

    Qualifications & Experience

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine desire to serve and develop others.
    • Demonstrated ability to positively influence, encourage, and support team members.
    • Confidence in making decisions, solving problems, and navigating challenges in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational skills, personal accountability, and attention to detail.
    • Willingness to learn café operations, food safety practices, inventory management, and financial processes.
    • Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes approximately two weekends per month.
    • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company fleet insurance requirements.

    Preferred Experience

    • Previous experience in food service, coffee shops, restaurants, or hospitality.
    • Experience coaching, training, or leading others in a customer-facing environment.
    • Familiarity with café operations, inventory management, or food safety practices.

Whether your experience comes from working as a barista, server, hospitality professional, or assistant manager, we’re interested in how you’ve demonstrated leadership, taken ownership, and made a positive impact on the people around you.

    Schedule, Compensation & Work Environment

    • Location: Lubbock, Texas
    • Position Type: Full-time | Hourly, Non-Exempt
    • Annual Compensation Range: $38,000–$48,000 (including profit sharing)
    • Schedule: Flexible, rotating schedule with approximately two weekends per month. When scheduled to work a weekend, you’ll receive two weekdays off. When you’re off for the weekend, you’ll enjoy Saturday and Sunday off. Scheduling is coordinated with café leadership to support operational needs and a healthy work-life balance.
    • Work Environment: Active bakery and café environment with frequent customer and team interaction.
    • Travel: Minimal travel for company events and occasional collaboration with other regions.

This position involves standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and other physical activities associated with restaurant operations. Must be able to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds. A current, valid driver’s license and eligibility for company fleet insurance are required.

Benefits & Perks – Investing in You

At Ninety-Two Bakery & Café, we believe taking care of our team members is just as important as taking care of our customers. As part of Betenbough Companies, you’ll have access to benefits and opportunities designed to support your well-being, personal growth, and future.

    • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) – Participate in a retirement benefit that allows you to share in the company’s long-term success.

How This Connects to Who We Are

At Ninety-Two Bakery & Café, we believe the way we treat people matters just as much as the products we serve.

We want our café to be a place where people experience genuine care, team members are encouraged to become better versions of themselves, and everyday work is approached with purpose.

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll have the opportunity to influence that experience through the way you lead, the relationships you build, and the example you set for others.
