Debb Atnip moved to Frisco, Texas twenty years ago when the road by her house only had two stop signs. Now the six-lane North-Dallas Tollway runs right through the town, the Dallas Cowboys made it their world headquarters, and the PGA relocated from Florida, making it a popular—and crowded—part of the DFW metro area. With Frisco’s population (and traffic) exploding, the birth of Debb’s first grandson in Lubbock, and her love of a good college town, Debb began to long for a life in Lubbock.
She had friends who were thrilled with their Betenbough home in the Hub City, so she began looking on our website and drove through Bell Farms when in town visiting her daughter. She fell in love with the Rebecca floor plan. Debb met with Erin Boren, new home specialist, at her New Home Tour on April 11, which happened to be her new grandson, Dash’s, birthday! Erin suggested the Abbey Glen community might be a good fit, and they found a quick move-in Rebecca that was framed out.
The $1,000 refundable deposit felt too good to be true, so Debb signed an agreement right away. Before heading home, she went back to the home and secretly wrote “This is my house,” and her name on the studs inside the pantry. She grabbed a piece of scrap wood as a souvenir and hurried back to Frisco to put her house on the market.
When Debb’s Betenbough home was completed in July, she still didn’t have a contract on her house in Frisco. Erin held it as long as she could, but eventually the Lubbock South team couldn’t keep that home in Debb’s name. She had to pivot to Plan B: building a Rebecca in Abbey Glenn while she waited for a buyer in Frisco. Debb was disappointed, but there was nothing she could do except wait, knowing she would be in Lubbock in her house when the time was right.
On Labor Day weekend, Debb got a contract on her home in Frisco. She called Erin and discovered the Betenbough home she originally wanted was still available! In fact, because it was now a completed available, the price was even lower than when she origially signed an agreement. That scrap lumber souvenir had been sitting on her desk and giving Debb hope for months, and now the very home it came from was going to be hers. Again, she felt it was almost too good to be true.
The road for Debb to get to this point had not been easy. Four years ago, her partner passed away after a lengthy battle with cancer. Debb had no feasible retirement plan, and her financial future seemed uncertain.
Looking back, Debb is now convinced that God had a plan in place for her all along. She says, “Selling my home in Frisco and being able to pay cash for my Lubbock home will allow me to retire, have a nest egg, travel, and live a whole life. It wasn’t just a game-changer. It was a life-changer.”
She describes the whole process of buying her home as “smooth.” “Everyone I’ve spoken to at Betenbough Homes and Impact Title has been the most genuine, present person. It’s unexpected,” reflects Debb. In fact, Debb’s daughter Claudia was so impressed with her mother’s home buying experience that Claudia is building a Betenbough home in Cypress Ranch and is scheduled to close this coming spring!
All the genuine and present people Debb encountered at Betenbough Homes and Impact Title were simply doing their jobs with excellence, generously serving their customer, and revealing God’s Kingdom in the marketplace, just like they do with every home buyer.
We may not always hear the full impact our home buying process has on our homeowners, but Debb was kind enough to communicate the effects this experience had on her. She’s looking forward to a future full of security and happy times in her beautiful home with her children and grandchildren. It’s not too good to be true…it’s the Kingdom of God!
