Job Summary

The Banquet Captain is an important role in facilitating the execution on the day of for each event. This role is the direct liaison between the event specialist and chef de cuisine, and will ensure guest expectations  of excellent food and service are met.

Essential Job Functions

  • Discussing event details with the event specialist and the chef de cuisine
  • Planning the venue layout according to the number of guests and the type of event
  • Determining the number of table waiters and servers required
  • Supervising the placement of tables, chairs, cutlery, plates, glasses, table linens, centerpieces, heating lamps, serving utensils, and carving stations
  • Consult with the head chef regarding the timing of meal courses to be served
  • Overseeing the seating of guests, the serving of meals and beverages, and the clearing of tables
  • Managing the availability of liquor and soft drinks, when required
  • Preparing work schedules and completing documentation in a timely manner
  • Answering customers’ questions and accommodating special requests
  • Reports to food and beverage manager

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience as a banquet lead, or similar
  • Proficiency in catering management software, such as Gather
  • Exceptional ability to plan banquets, manage budgets, and meet deadlines
  • Experience in leading event venue staff
  • Ability to collaborate with event specialist and head chef
  • Extensive knowledge of catering equipment and venue requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of hospitality industry best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellence in leadership

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Works in temperature-controlled environment
  • Vision for near, mid-range and far as well as hearing for low, medium, and high pitch
  • Superior communication skills with co-workers, customers, trade partners and vendors.
  • Requires physical ability for standing, sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching above head and below waist
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license and must be able to be insured by company fleet insurance.
  • Must be able to perform all job expectations safely with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to lift 30-50 pounds

Hours & Schedule

  • 40-45 hours per week
  • Nights and weekends required
  • Lunch meetings and events outside of normal working hours are required
  • Occasional travel to other company regions or event locations is required
