Living and Breathing it

Donya Butler, owner of DesignEnvy (a graphic design and marketing business in Lubbock), first got involved in Kingdom at Work through “A Taste of Kingdom at Work” lunches.

Donya Butler owns DesignEnvy, a graphic design and marketing business in Lubbock.

From there, she attended a Kingdom Leadership Workshop and was further equipped to run her Kingdom business.

As much as she loved Kingdom at Work, Donya did not want to be part of an Action Group. She shares, “I was intimidated by it. Will they want to look at my financials? I can’t hold my own with those kind of people. The lunches and the Workshop were great, but an Action Group is too much.”

God, however, was about to change her mind.

Three different people–on three separate occasions–spoke to Donya about Action Groups. After the third, Donya had to laugh. She could no longer deny that God was leading her to join a Kingdom at Work Action Group.

When she called Amanda Bullen, manager of Kingdom at Work, to sign up for a 2024 Action Group, Donya had to be honest that it was a tough time in her business, and the financial commitment was going to be a problem. Amanda said that God had already made it clear that Donya wouldn’t pay a dime. To this day, Donya doesn’t know how her fees were covered, but she knew the Lord wanted her in that room. The following morning at 8 a.m. she attended the inaugural meeting of the first all-women Action Group.

She attended faithfully all year, and no one ever asked to see her financials.

But she has learned a lot about being a good steward. If she needs to talk about her finances, she can. This group of women has a level of trust that has grown from sharing, crying, praying, and being accountable…together.

DesignEnvy was in a significant amount of debt. The Action Group has provided Donya with helpful Kingdom principles instead of a worldly, greedy perspective.

The monthly one-on-ones with the group facilitator, Amanda, encouraged Donya through some courageous conversations with a business partner, among other things.

Donya had never before fired an employee, but in 2024 she needed to separate with a designer. The Action Group coached her through the experience of releasing this team member in a Biblical, loving way. They also prepared her for a healthy hiring process when the Lord brought a new designer to the business.

When asked how the Action Group impacted her business, Donya says with emotion, “It has transformed me and therefore my business.”

DesignEnvy is now thriving. Within a year, the company will be debt-free. The new designer continues to be a good fit. Donya can now afford to pay her own fees for the Action Group, and she hopes to bless someone else with the experience some day.

The impact of this Action Group continues to spread. Donya’s husband recently started a new business, and she’s sowing her Kingdom knowledge into him.

“Joining an action group was the next step in my growth. Now I’m living and breathing it.”
