When Robin Lehman looks back on the last few years, she can trace a thread of grace woven through seasons of loss, healing, and renewal — grace that came through God’s faithfulness and the loving support of her Betenbough family.
Raised in the Catholic church, Robin grew up knowing about God, but not yet knowing Him intimately. “I didn’t have that ‘father-daughter’ or ‘friend’ relationship with Jesus,” she explains. “Faith was there when I needed it, but it wasn’t part of everyday life.”
That began to change when she joined Betenbough Homes. “He’s in everything we do here,” Robin shares. “Even if we’re not talking about it, it’s evident in the way we honor team members, home buyers, and trade partners. The way our leaders care — I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Only a few months after joining the company in 2021, Robin was faced with a terrifying battle for her life. COVID hit hard, sending her to the ICU for more than two weeks. “My team showed up outside my hospital window to pray over me,” she remembers. “I wasn’t even coherent, but I felt their presence. I had an entire community fighting for me.” Even her leaders reached out to her family. Ron Betenbough personally checked on her husband and children. That kind of care, Robin says, “means more than words can express.”
A few years later, when Robin and her husband, Bruce, found themselves in need of renewed connection and guidance, Robin reached out to inquire about available resources. Betenbough recognized the need and sponsored them to attend a marriage intensive weekend designed to help strengthen their relationship. “We learned so much, and it opened our eyes — not just in our marriage, but to the growth we each needed within ourselves,” shares Robin.
Even after all the work, the marriage didn’t survive. “Divorce was not what my heart wanted,” Robin says quietly. “But I knew I had to do it for my emotional well-being.” She describes Bruce with compassion: “He’s an incredible person, and I will always care about him. The issues between us had grown too difficult to resolve, and staying together was no longer healthy for either of us.”
Though the road was painful, Robin didn’t walk it alone. Her leaders and teammates surrounded her with prayer, grace, and steadfast love. In her darkest moments, they became her safe place, reminding her that she was seen, valued, and deeply loved. “I was trying so hard to hold it together,” Robin recalls, “but they reminded me that I didn’t have to be strong all the time. They stood in the gap for me, prayed over me, and helped me find hope again.”
As Robin began to heal, Kathryn Miller, sales manager, and the leadership team encouraged her to take a seven-day sabbatical to rest, reflect, and hear from the Lord. “We put her work on hold,” Kathryn says. “That’s not something we do lightly, but Robin is worth it.”
Robin didn’t waste a moment. “I dove into Ephesians,” she recounts. “I studied what it means to be God’s daughter, to understand my identity in Christ. One night I went to bed broken and woke up with a strength I can’t explain. I just knew I was going to be okay.”
Kathryn saw the transformation firsthand. “Robin did the hard work: professional counseling, an identity class, time with God. She’s a picture of what it looks like to walk through pain and turn toward Him.”
General manager Justin Betancur smiles when he talks about Robin’s restoration. “To see her thriving in every area — personally, spiritually, and professionally — and not just saying she’ll be okay, but really living it, that’s been incredible. She’s brave, open, and willing to step into what God has for her.”
Looking back, Robin marvels at how God has used every chapter — from purchasing a Betenbough home in the early 90’s (she had her options meeting in Rick and Holly’s dining room) to finding her place on the Betenbough team decades later. “This company culture is real,” she emphasizes. “Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable here. You won’t be judged. You’ll be loved.”
Her story is one of courage, surrender, and transformation — proof that even in the hardest seasons, God is faithful to bring beauty from brokenness.
