“The corporation will demonstrate this purpose by raising people up to their God-given potential and enabling them to flourish spiritually, personally, and professionally. Also, the corporation will partner generously with other organizations that share a similar purpose. The corporation will focus upon its own employees and their families, upon the people with whom it has direct interactions, and upon the broader world. In carrying out its mission, profitability shall not be the sole factor in determining the goals and activities of the corporation."

--Betenbough Companies, PBC Articles of Incorporation

Hey Betenbough Family,

Welcome to 2023! Before we get too engaged in what is ahead for us, we should stop and thank God for 2022, so thank you, Lord! The quote above is straight out of our incorporation documents for Betenbough Companies, PBC and I thought some of you might not know that our Purpose is stated in our corporate documents for the State of Texas. As a reminder, most corporations have “profit” as their stated primary purpose. Therefore, for them, an annual report is really just financial statements. To be clear, we are a for-profit company as well. Profit is not evil or wrong. In fact, we need it to flourish. But it is not the highest pursuit for us. In fact, we believe that if our highest pursuit is for the people to flourish and for us to work together to that end, profit will be the natural fruit of those efforts!

Since we have a different purpose, even as a for-profit corporation, we have an Impact Report as our annual report. We have stated that we want to enable our people to flourish spiritually, personally, and professionally and our Impact Report exists to tell those stories. We want to make an impact!

And we have had impact. When we really care about each other and work together for everyone’s benefit, there will be impact. We have heard so many stories of impact and we selected a few to share with everyone and celebrate together.

As Dad and I have struggled with our health this past year, I want you to know that YOU have had a big impact on us! Your texts, calls, visits, and prayers have cheered us on, and encouraged us. We are so blessed to call you family and your love is healing for us!

We love you and thank God for you, and we pray this will be a blessed year for each one of you!

“The corporation will demonstrate this purpose by raising people up to their God-given potential and enabling them to flourish spiritually, personally, and professionally. Inviting Others In

In typical corporate America, employees are expected to check their baggage at the door. Outside struggles aren’t welcome in the workplace if they hinder productivity. However, at Betenbough Companies, it’s different. Sarah Sales, former Betenbough Companies marketing team member, experienced the fruits of working in a people-first culture first-hand.

After being with Betenbough Companies for about three months I had a health event where I ended up in the ER and had to have surgery. Due to the surgery, I could not work for a week and a half so I could recover which made me think I was going to have a lot of catching up to do when I returned to the office. In my absence, my team and leaders not only took care of my job responsibilities, but each of them called or sent me a text to check on me. Our connections team sent my family a gift card for meals which made a big impact on my wife because our daughter was 5 months old and she was having to care for both of us. Betenbough Companies has made me feel cared for as both a team member and as a person which is something I have not experienced in prior workplaces.

I haven’t worked for many companies in my life, but I have worked for a variety. I have worked with Christians, for a Christian owned company, for non-Christian companies, pastoral ministry and non-profit Christian Ministry. I have found Betenbough to be completely unique. When I share with friends and family about what I get to do and the blessings Betenbough gives me it blows me away every time. You have been a blessing to me and my wife, from Christmas bonuses to Betenbough Connect day, to empowering my leaders, Sean and Bryan, to be a blessing to me. It is something hard to put into words. One thing that has stood out to me the most has been faith. I am really good at not worrying about things, but that hasn’t meant that I have great faith. Watching Betenbough operate in that realm, pursing what God has laid on your hearts even if it doesn’t make sense has been inspiring to me and challenging altogether. Seeing God reward that faithfulness has been eye opening.

When my wife, two sons, and I moved back to Texas after a couple years of international ministry, we were needing a place to rest and recover. Initially, moving to Lubbock wasn’t on our radar until a close friend and Betenbough team member told me more about the people-first culture and unique work environment at Betenbough Companies. The Lord put it on my heart to apply and I haven’t regretted it once. The leadership cares deeply about every part of what makes a person human, not just what a person can produce for the betterment of the organization. I have found that this has not only kept me highly motivated and purpose-driven in my work, but it has also catalyzed the rest and recovery my family and I needed in this season of our lives.

Throughout my early childhood into high school, I was an avid believer and pursued my faith in absolutely everything that I did. I made some extremely terrible decisions in college, where I studied ministry, that lead me down a path that was incredibly tough to find my way out of. In those times of addiction and alcoholism, I lost touch with my faith entirely. I have done a lot of personal work to straighten out my life and am working to build a strong foundation for my wife and me. During the interview process, after the second interview, I told myself, “If God wants you here, then he will make the path happen.” I received an offer not too long after that. Since starting here, I feel different. I’ve never been in an environment where someone has poured this much into me, and genuinely cared for my all-around well-being. I’ve learned to start believing again, and I have received guidance from my Betenbough coworkers. At first, I thought this place was just another job, but it’s much much more than that. I’m incredibly thankful to be where I am today.

I have seen time and again the leaders in this company put “people above profit”. I have watched our leadership adjust the price of homes, add in extra incentives or help cover the closing cost on our homes, not just to make a sale, but because it was the right thing to do. Betenbough truly wants the best for our customers and for employees. I recently went through a difficult time with some issues my adult children were facing. My leaders both pulled me to the side, checked on me and then told me to go home and take care of what I needed to take care of. In most of my other jobs, I would have been told to take a few minutes and then get right back at it, but not here at Betenbough. These are just a couple of many examples that show how lives lived seeped in Betenbough’s culture can affect and change us all.

The Betenbough culture is vastly different than other workplaces because, where other companies define you by your sales numbers, Betenbough defines you by your heart. My leader has taken the time to not only let me know she is proud of the progress I have made in my job, but has also taken the time in our one-on-one’s to get to know me. At Betenbough I know I am valued as a person, not just as “another team member”. Throughout my life I have always second-guessed if what I was doing held enough value. Now I know, anything I do, from the smallest detail to a home closing, brings value not only to me, but to my team. I find I am more proud of myself professionally and personally each day that I work here.
